The Master of Science in Industrial Biotechnology is designed to prepare graduates for high-level roles in research centres, innovative enterprises, and industries operating in the biotechnological sector. The programme offers an advanced and multidisciplinary education, combining theoretical foundations with practical experience in cutting-edge areas of industrial biotechnology. Students will acquire in-depth knowledge of biological systems, interpreted through molecular and informational frameworks, from cellular mechanisms to complex organisms. The curriculum provides a solid grounding in core biotechnological disciplines, while fostering specialised competencies in emerging and consolidated sectors of industrial biotechnology.
A key strength of the programme is the opportunity to engage in external activities, such as internships in companies, public or private research institutes, and mobility experiences in Italian or European universities. These activities are designed to enhance professional skills and foster integration with the biotechnological job market. The training ends with an experimental thesis, carried out in academic laboratories or external research facilities, focused on original scientific and technological work. This final project represents a qualifying component of the academic path, promoting autonomy, innovation, and research proficiency.
The MSc offers two curricula:
BiRRe – Biotechnology for Renewable Resources – aimed at developing expertise in the use of renewable resources for biotechnological applications. This curriculum includes courses delivered in English (57 ECTS) and Italian (30 ECTS).
ProBio – Biotechnology Productions – focused on an integrated approach to established and emerging production technologies, with all lectures delivered in Italian.
This programme provides the skills and practical insight necessary to drive advancements in biotechnology within both academic institutions and the biotech industry.
