16.Environmental and Land Planning Engineering (cv in Environmental Sustainability)

Key features of the MSc course in Environmental and Land Planning Engineering – Curriculum Environmental Sustainability

Environmental Engineering lays in the area of Civil Engineering and stands as a multidisciplinary field focused on protecting both human and environmental health by applying engineering principles. The multidisciplinary approach is essential to ensure the human-centered sustainable development by proposing efficient, low-impact engineering solutions to some of the most pressing challenges of our times, including resource recovery in a circular (bio-)economy perspective, climate change mitigation, smart and resilient cities’ development as well as environmental and territorial protection.

The Master Degree Program in Environmental and Land Planning Engineering – Curriculum Environmental Sustainability aims at training professionals making sustainable development happen. Graduates are qualified experts in the planning, management and control of interventions aimed at the environmental protection and restoration, waste and wastewater valorization, soil defense and the production and management of renewable energy, as well as its application and use in urban areas.

The curriculum provides fundamental and applied knowledge in Sanitary-Environmental Engineering, Chemical-Environmental Engineering, Hydraulics and Hydraulic Constructions, Geology and Geotechnics, Territorial Planning. The Graduates acquire, therefore, professional skills centered mainly on the ability to ‘conceive and design’, in addition to those of ‘control and management’ of the governance and monitoring systems of the environment and the territory. They further gain the ability to integrate the knowledge to the different sectors of study addressed, learning to manage the complexity inherent in all problems relating to design, planning and management of works and projects aimed at human and environmental protection.

The Graduates of this study program will be able to take on managerial roles, to work as consultant or employees in a wide variety of sectors, spanning from public bodies to companies, consortia, agencies and other entities operating – among others – in the fields of environmental protection, territory governance, integrated water and waste management as well as environmental monitoring.
